International Space Station Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) Project

Brief of the ISS AMS Project

Professor Samuel C. C. Ting, the Nobel Prize Laureate in physics, initiated International Space Station Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) project, which verified the existence of dark matter by measuring positrons generated after dark matter collisions. To study the nature of dark energy and explore the origin and evolution of the universe.

The Space shuttle of STS Endeavour delivered the AMS to the International Space Station.

In 2014, Professor Samuel C. C. Ting published research results that proved the existence of dark matter.

HL Participates in AMS Project

In 2004, HL Cryogenic Equipment was invited to participate in the Cryogenic Ground Support Equipment System of the International Space Station Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) seminar which was hosted by renowned physical scientist and Nobel laureate professor Samuel Chao Chung TING. After that, cryogenic experts from seven countries, visit to more than a dozen of professional cryogenic equipment factories for field investigation, and then selected HL Cryogenic Equipment as the supporting production base.

AMS CGSE Project Design of HL Cryogenic Equipment

Several engineers from HL Cryogenic Equipment went to European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland for nearly half a year for co-design.

Responsibility of HL Cryogenic Equipment in AMS Project

HL Cryogenic Equipment is responsible for the Cryogenic Ground Support Equipment (CGSE) of AMS. The design, manufacture and test of the Vacuum Insulated Pipe and Hose, the Liquid Helium Container, the Superfluid Helium Test, Experimental Platform of the AMS CGSE, and participate in the debugging of AMS CGSE System.
