This may sound like the plot of science fiction, but there are already people trying to achieve that goal.

He is LANDSPACE company, and today LANDSPACE successfully launched the world's first methane rocket, Suzaku II.

This is a shocking and proud achievement, because it not only transcends international rivals such as SpaceX, but also leads the new age of rocket technology.

The methane rocket is a rocket that uses liquid methane and liquid oxygen as propellant. Liquid methane is a natural gas made from low temperature and low pressure, which is the simplest hydrocarbon of a carbon and four hydrogen atoms.

Liquid methane and traditional liquid kerosene have many advantages,

For example:

High efficiency: liquid methane has a higher theory than the impulse of the unit quality propellant, which means it can provide greater thrust and speed.

Low cost: liquid methane is relatively cheap and easy to produce, which can be extracted from a widely distributed gas field on earth, and can be synthesized by hydrate, biomass, or other methods.

Environmental protection: liquid methane produces low carbon emissions in burning, and does not produce carbon or other residues that reduce engine performance and life.

Renewable: liquid methane can be made on other bodies, such as Mars or Titan (Saturn's satellite), which are rich in methane resources. This means that future space exploration missions can be used to replenish or build rocket fuels without the need to transport from the earth.

After more than four years of research and development and testing, it is China's first and the first liquid oxygen methane engine in the world. It uses a full flow combustion chamber, which is a technique that blends liquid methane and liquid oxygen into the combustion chamber at high pressure, which can improve combustion efficiency and stability.

The methane rocket is one of the most suitable technologies for implementing reusable rockets, which can reduce the cost and time of engine maintenance and cleaning, and also reduce the impact on the earth's environment. And reusable rockets are a key factor in reducing the cost of space transport and improving the frequency of space activities.
